Fiona Wharton & Laura Moss, Wrigleys Solicitors
Fiona and Laura will be talking about the latest developments in charity law and practice, and scanning the horizon to see what’s coming up. They’ll cover the new Charities Act 2022, recent news from the Charity Commission and the upcoming review of the Code of Fundraising Practice, including a brief look at crypto-philanthropy. They’ll also touch on digital governance, ESG and an update on the charitable investments framework.

Martin Borradaile, Joanne Thomlinson and Faye Armstrong, Dodd & Co Chartered Accountants
Martin, Joanne and Faye will cover ways charities can digitise their finance function along with the range of benefits this can bring. They will run through some of the ways in which digital systems can drastically improve a charity’s reporting capabilities as well as saving time and costs and ensuring funds are being monitored and managed effectively. They will also talk us through considerations for charities carrying out a trade, including Charity Commission guidance, tax implications and structures that can be implemented to minimise risk. Finally, they will provide a charity VAT update, including a discussion on the recent changes to the tests for what constitutes a business activity for VAT purposes.
