Public Sector Pension Schemes

We have a specialist public sector pensions unit that advises clients who participate in public sector pension schemes; industry wide schemes including the Social Housing Pension Scheme; and broadly comparable schemes under the old Fair Deal guidance.  Please come and speak to us about your public sector pension queries.

Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS)

We advise administering authorities, scheme employers and admitted bodies on a variety of issues unique to the public sector including:

  • shared service arrangements

  • outsourcing arrangements

  • employer discretions

  • funding risks including exit debts and credits

  • application of New Fair Deal and Best Value Direction

Recent experience

  • Advising a Multi Academy Trust on the outsourcing of a school’s catering function and the admission of the caterer as an employer in the LGPS where the Trust was required to act as guarantor.

  • Advising a charity on the renegotiation of the terms of its services contract with a local council, including a passthrough arrangement to allocate responsibility for the payment of LGPS pension contributions between the charity and the local council.

  • Advising a Multi Academy Trust on its merger with a technical college, including the transfer of pension liabilities under the LGPS to the Multi Academy Trust so as to manage the exit debt risk.

'The team at Wrigleys are very easy to work with. Their knowledge in their field is clear and they are happy to discuss issues and collaborate to come up with pragmatic solutions.'
