Position: Senior Charities Counsel

Areas of practice:

Nicola joined the Charities and Social Economy team at Wrigleys Solicitors in 2024 as Senior Charities Counsel. With a distinguished career spanning over two decades, Nicola brings extensive expertise and commitment to the charity sector, having qualified as a solicitor in 1996 in the trusts and charities team at (what was then) Herbert Smith and spent 19 years as the charities knowhow lawyer and in-house counsel at BDB Pitmans (as was).

Nicola was elected to the Charity Law Association (CLA) Executive Committee from 2008 to 2020, and served as its Chair from 2016 to 2019. During her tenure, she played a pivotal role in shaping charity law, contributing to and leading various working parties to respond to key consultations. Notably, she chaired the working party that responded to the Law Commission’s consultation on 'Technical Issues in Charity Law 2015'. 

Her contributions extended to ongoing consultations with the Law Commission, culminating in the Charities Bill, introduced in Parliament in 2021, which became the Charities Act 2022. Nicola also provided evidence to the Parliamentary Special Bill Committee. 

Nicola has also had liaison with the Charity Tax Group, providing expert input, and she is a regular speaker and commentator on charity law, sharing her insights and knowledge in articles and at various forums and events.
