The Inaugural Yorkshire Academies Seminar

Speaker: Chris Billington, Partner, Wrigleys Solicitors

Venue: Mazars House, Gelderd Road, Gildersome, Leeds, LS27 7JN

Speakers

John Flynn, Business Manager, Heckmondwike Grammar School
John is one of a small number of Business Managers from the North of England who worked with other academy representatives, the Department for Education and Education Funding Agency to formulate the 2013 Academies Financial Handbook.

John will share his experience of this working group’s efforts and invites you to share any suggestions or observations you may have so that these might be taken into account in the next version of the handbook due to be published in 2014.

Ian Buss, Head of Education, Lloyds Bank – SME Key Markets
The UK loses billions of pounds each year to fraud. Fraud impacts all areas of life including, unfortunately, our academies. Ian will explore “The Business of Education” looking at change and the business risks to your academy whilst discussing areas of fraud impacting the sector and practical steps that can be taken to reduce the risk of falling prey to fraud.

Chris Billington, Partner, Wrigleys Solicitors LLP
Chris and his team have advised over 200 academies and free schools on conversion and post-conversion issues. He is also a Director of The School Partnership Trust Academies, a significant multi-trust academy.

Chris will explore the difficult area of managing conflicts of interest for academy directors and members,
highlighting pitfalls to avoid and best practice to adopt.
