Planning for death and disability

At first sight the idea of reducing a prospective inheritance tax liability by making gifts and surviving them by seven years seems quite straight forward. In practice, older clients may be nervous about reducing even very large estates, for a variety of reasons, which include:

  • other possible tax liabilities, such as capital gains tax, which may cause problems on the gift itself
  • a fear of giving away too much, too soon, not helped by low income yields and problems in the pensions markets
  • concern about medical expenses and the cost of care in old age

Wrigleys has wide experience of these areas and regularly advises older clients on Wills, powers of attorney, and tax planning and other strategies to conserve family assets.
