The firm has two offices, the larger one in Leeds and a smaller, but growing, team in Sheffield. The total complement in Leeds is some 99, of whom 41 are professionals and the corresponding figures in Sheffield are 32 and 10. Professionals and their support staff (we have a high ratio of secretaries to fee earners) are organised in various departments.
Each department is led by a partner, who is responsible for implementing its professional objectives, as agreed by the partners. The managing partner, who is not a fee earner, is responsible with heads of department for the financial aspects of the firm's business. Secretarial staff are managed by departmental co-ordinators. They report to the office manager, who is also responsible for the other support staff within the offices.
All staff have access to the managing partner at any time. Formal appraisals of all staff are carried out at least annually and fee earners meet in their departmental group every month, usually over lunch.
We have an open approach to management information. Financial progress details for all partners and fee earners are available across the firm on a monthly basis.
Salaries are usually reviewed annually and staff share in the success of the firm through a discretionary bonus scheme.
Our staff turnover at both professional and support level is very low for a firm of our size.
